Newquay Ladies 1 Argyle Ladies 5
21st October 2012
CORNISH rivals Newquay Ladies were brushed aside by a strong Pilgrims side as they ran out 5-1 winners in the South West Combination League.
Manager Kev Rose had made several changes with Laura Perrett returning to her natural forward position, and Michaela Phillips, after a long lay off with an injured shoulder, back in to the goalkeepers spot.Having not played last week, the girls were raring to go and it showed in the way they went about their task.
Playing the better football , they pushed forward and looked dangerous in every attack. The only surprising thing was that it took 20 minutes for the girls to stamp their mark on the game that their enterprising play deserved.
Laura Perrett took a pass on the right wing, beat her defender and crossed the ball for Emily Mousley to smash the ball home.
Mousley might have added to her tally when she burst through the middle but shot straight at the keeper.
The game was held up for several minutes while influential midfielder Rebekah Rose was treated for an ankle injury. She was unable to continue and was helped from the pitch to be replaced by Ellie Dory.
The only silver lining was from resultant free-kick, Katie Middleton's long right-to-left diagonal free-kick eluded the defenders for Mousley to stab the ball home from close range.
In time added on at the end of the half, Mousley completed her hat trick by hitting a crisp shot from the penalty spot after a Newquay defender handled the ball.
Newquay pulled a goal back moments later when Argyle conceded a needless free kick twenty yards out and former Pilgrim Becky Atkins placed her shot over the wall and just under the bar beyond the reach of the leaping Michaela Phillips.
The second half was more evenly contested as the home side raised their game, but it was Argyle that increased their lead .
Energetic midfielder Jodie Chubb was put through left side of the box, cut inside a defender and planted her shot across the advancing keeper into the far corner of the goal.
Shortly after, Mousley forced the home keeper into a magnificent flying save to push the ball around the post.
Just after the hour, Chubb and Perrett were subbed off for Sarah Stacey and Steph Beck, and it was the latter that provided a fourth goal for Mousley.
From Beck’s perfectly placed corner Emily got her head to the ball to round off an excellent performance .
