Banton 'Blow'

JOHN Sheridan admits the loss of Jason Banton for Argyle’s last three games of the season is “a blow” to the Pilgrims.

The Crystal Palace midfielder has been recalled early from his successful loan spell at Home Park by Palace manager Ian Holloway after 14 impressive games in which he scored six times.

“It’s a big loss,” said the Argyle manager, “because he gives us a spark.

“He does things other players can’t do. He’s off the cuff and always a threat. It’s a blow, and I think Jason would like to have stayed, but it’s not his decision.

“Credit to him – he’s been getting a bit of notice; Palace aren’t winning games, so they’ve recalled him. He’s their player, and I respect that. They’ve helped us out and he’s done really well for us.

John, though, will not be dwelling for who he does not have for Tuesday’s visit to Chesterfield.

He said: “I’m not one to sulk and weep about it. I’ve got to concentrate on who I bring into the side and lift him.

“Jason’s been quality for us – he’s a great lad and hope he does well – but I’ve got to concentrate on who I bring in.

“Whoever comes into the side, whatever team or formation we play, hopefully it will get us a good result.”
