Capital Response Required

ARGYLE manager John Sheridan is looking for a capital response from his players after their Sky Bet League 2 opening-day defeat by Southend United.

The Pilgrims travel to Championship side Birmingham City in midweek for a Capital One Cup first round tie and John is pleased they are back in action so soon after the 1-0 reverse at Roots Hall.

“We have got to lift the lads again,” said John, following Saturday’s game at Southend. “I’ve had a little go at them today – I don’t expect that performance and what they’ve shown today, I wasn’t happy with.”

John is committed to making changes, with Paul Wotton ruled out after breaking a rib following a collision with team-mate Luke McCormick, and Jake Cole set to be given a run-out in goal.

“It’ll be a good game for us and it’ll be tough,” said John. “That’s the best thing to do when you’ve had a poor performance – get straight into another game situation and hopefully get a better performance.

“I accept losing games, but not the way we lost the game today.”
