Pur-fect

FOR all the new arrivals at Home Park since John Sheridan became manager, it might just be that someone who has been at the club all along has impressed the new gaffer most.

John watched the midweek development game at Saltash United, where youth-team defender Ben Purrington caught the eye, even if his is still three months shy of his 17th birthday.

“I really liked the way he played,” said John.

“I said to the kid: ‘[Your age] doesn’t bother me – if you keep playing like that, you’ll be putting things in my mind that you’re good enough and you could to be involved’, even if he is 16.”

With left-back Robbie Williams leaving the club this week, Exeter-born Ben is slightly further up a pecking-order that includes Onismor Bhasera and incumbent Anthony Charles.

It had been rumoured that Baz would also be leaving during the transfer-window – it is rumoured that Baz is leaving during most transfer-windows – but John batted that idea out of Home Park.

“Not one enquiry,” he said. “I think that will be just paper talk.”
