Wait For Gozie

THE Green Army may have to wait a little bit longer for a first sight of on-loan striker Gozie Ugwu in Argyle colours.

The Reading teenager missed out on a debut against Accrington Stanley last weekend following a training-ground injury which threatens to exclude him from this Saturday’s visit of Dagenham & Redbridge to Home Park.

“He’s trained today, but his ankle is still a little bit tender,” said manager John Sheridan on Thursday.

“We’ll just have to assess him. There’s not a lot you can do about it. It’s not one of [those injuries] where you can just get through the pain barrier

“He’s more gutted than anyone; I’m gutted because I was hoping he could score goals and do well for us.

“It’s 50-50 at the moment. If I was a betting man, I’d probably say ‘no’. We’ll just have to see how he is.”

No Gozie, but possibly a glimpse – at least – of winger Jason Banton, another loan player, who joined on Thursday from Crystal Palace.

John said:  “I think it’s important that we try to get a player who is going to gain us that ground 30-40 yards up the pitch quickly, and he’s a player who will get at people.

“He’s highly recommended and he’s hopefully going to excite us and get us that momentum attacking-wise, give us a lift and play at a high tempo.

“I think it’s important that I try and bring players in to give us a lift and a new lease of life.

“They’ll have to bed in quickly. I’m going to throw them in there and they have to be ready.”
