Murray Signs

ARGYLE have agreed a loan deal with Ipswich Town to take striker Ronan Murray on loan until the end of the season.

Ronan is returning to a happy hunting-ground by joining the Pilgrims.

The 21-year-old striker made a scoring debut in Devon - against Exeter - and has also enjoyed a loan spell in the Westcountry at Torquay United.

The Irish Under-21 international's first appearance in an Ipswich shirt came as an 18-year-old two seasons ago, when he netted Town's first in a 3-2 Carling Cup victory over Exeter at St James Park.

Later the same season, and after 11 further appearances for Ipswich - including Cup games against Arsenal and Chelsea - he joined Torquay United on loan.

Ronan - who has been nicknamed 'Rooney' at Ipswich because of a similar style to the Manchester United man - played seven games for the Gulls, scoring what turned out to be the winner against Cheltenham, before returning to Portman Road.

Last season, he was loaned to Swindon Town and helped them win promotion from League 2 and a place at Wembley in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final, which the Robins lost 2-0 to John Sheridan's Chesterfield.

He scored four times during Paolo Di Canio's side's march to the title, playing 20 games, including in Town's 1-0 victory at Home Park.

His only first-team appearance so far this season was back at Ipswich, as a substitute in a 6-0 Championship defeat at Blackpool.

Internationally, he represented the Republic of Ireland at Under-16, Under-18 and Under-19 levels before making his sole Under-21 appearance in March 2011.

Then, he lined up alongside Pilgrims' midfielder Conor Hourihane against Portugal in a friendly at the Estadio Municipal de Agueda which the home side won 2-0 with two late goals.
