Clevedon Town 0 Argyle XI 1

ARGYLE manager John Sheridan was joined in the stands by coaches Gary Owers and Sean McCarthy as a young Pilgrims side battled to victory against Clevedon of the Calor Southern League.

The trio’s prime objective was to run the rule over trialist Jordan Gele, a 20-year-old French midfielder who was spotted in trial game, arranged by former manager Paul Sturrock.

Argyle started strongly with Ryan Lane, Solomon Wheatley and Isaac Vassell, pictured, all going close to giving their side a first half lead while at the other end, goalkeeper Andrew Hannah produced superb diving saves to deny the Seasiders Ross McNab and Connor O’Sullivan.

Lane sent a rasping low shot thudding against the hosts upright before Hannah’s match came to a premature end, on  57 minutes, as he was injured diving bravely at the feet of Reeko Best.

The winning goal did not arrive until two minutes from time when substitute Josh Hutchinson scored with a low drive from 20 yards.

Argyle: Andrew Hannah (Tom McHale 57), Will Sargent, Ben Purrington (Tom Moxham 80), Jordan Gele (Keiran Asumadu-Sakyi 80), Nathan Summers, Jamie Richards, Solomon Wheatley, River Allen, Isaac Vassell (Lewis Rooney 80), Ryan Lane (Josh Hutchinson 80), Callum Hall.
