Torpoint 0 Argyle XI 5
11th July 2013
TORPOINT Athletic were swept aside, in the first half of this opening friendly at The Mill, by a talented Pilgrim's outfit who were four goals to the good by the interval.
Argyle took the lead when second year apprentice winger Solomon Wheatley, pictured, cut in from the left and neatly placed a low, angled shot inside the far post. But it was three goals in as many minutes that effectively ended the game as a contest when Louis Rooney, who lives in Torpoint, turned and fired home from 15 yards after 22 minutes.
Fifteen-year-old schoolboy midfielder Jake Miller's 25-yard pile-driver and Wheatley's second of the game then completed a manic spell of scoring.
Torpoint recovered their poise and Callum Martindale's 20-yarder forced a fine save out of Argyle 'keeper Tom McHale and it was not until the 62nd minute that substitute Jason Vincent completed the scoring with a 15 yard drive.
