Don't Say It Too Loudly

YOU will not find many people associated with Argyle who will have a good word to say – publicly, at least – about Exeter City...

...but Pilgrims’ manager John Sheridan was effusive in his praise for the Grecians this week.

City come to Home Park on Saturday for a 1pm Devon Expressway Derby with a lot more than local bragging rights at stake. While Argyle need points to stay in the Football League, Exeter are chasing promotion back to League 1.

“They are a good team.” said John. “They are going well at the opposite end of the table from us and it’s a big game for them, as well as us.

“They will feel there’s an opportunity to come here and get three points because we’re the team who are near the bottom.

“But, hopefully, they will be prepared for a tough game, because that is what we are going to give them.

“We know they are good team, a good footballing side, and, if we let them dictate, they can cause you problems.

“They have got a good away record, but we have lost one in five, and I feel as if we are getting better as a team and we have just got to take the form we are showing at the moment into the game.

“Consistently, over the last five, six or seven games, performances are getting better. We have just got to keep on doing that. If we do, we will be where we want to be at the end of the season.

“We have got to play like we have been playing. We have been a threat; we have defended well; and, for the last five or six games, we’ve had a better shape to us.”
