After three consecutive league victories...
...Plymouth Argyle's youngsters finally suffered defeat as they lost this tight encounter at the Cat & Fiddle Ground by the narrowest of margins. The young Pilgrims went in to the game without injured trio Ryan Lane, River Allen and Jake Miller, who had scored the first two goals in Argyle's impressive FA Youth Cup vicotry at Colchester on Tuesday.
The extra time and penalties at Colchester must have taken its toll on Kevin Hodges side but to their credit they stuck manfully to their task.
'The players worked hard on a tricky pitch and although I was disappointed we lost I was proud of their efforts,' said Hodges.
Ben Purrington was unlucky not to give Argyle the lead but his first half effort came back off the City post before Callum Hall twice went close with long range efforts.
But it was City who were to grab the only goal of the game, on 73 minutes, when Ollie Watkins fired home from the edge of the box.
ARGYLE: Andrew Hannah, Mason Hughes (Matt Coram 75), Nathan Summers, Tom Moxham, Ben Purrington, Keiran Asumadu-Sakyi (Jack Calver 72), Will Sargent, Callum Hall, Louis Rooney (Ethan Stark 73), Solomon Wheatley, Joshua Hutchinson.
