WITH five goals in his last three games, Reuben Reid has spearheaded Argyle’s drive up the Sky Bet League 2 table.
If Argyle manager John Sheridan has his way, that will just be for starters.“I think he should have more goals for the ability he’s got,” said John. “He’s improving and he’s a big focal point for us in the team – when he’s on form, usually we play better. I’ve said to Reuben that I expect a lot more from him, for what he’s got in his locker.
“The goals that are coming his way now can only give him more confidence. Hopefully, they will continue.”
With Lewis Alessandra also blossoming, and forming a decent-looking partnership with Reuben, loan signing Caolan Lavery has had to be content with substitute appearances in his two matches so far. That may continue when Burton Albion visit Home Park on Saturday.
He nearly nicked a winning goal at Torquay on Tuesday night, and John said: “He’s looked bright when he’s come on. He was unfortunate not to score. It was great little movement for a back-post header when he hit the post.
“In training, he’s looked sharp. He reads things and is always aware of what’s around him.
“He’d be playing but, with the form we’re in at the moment and we’re on a run, I think it’s important I try to keep the players who deserve a place in the side. He’s ready for every opportunity he gets and hopefully he’ll get some more game-time on Saturday.”
