Argyle U18s 2 Newport U18s 0

ARGYLE'S youngsters returned to Football League Youth Alliance action with another victory at Tavistock's Langsford Park ground.

For the second time in a week, the young Pilgrims inflicted defeat on their Welsh opponents, keeping consecutive clean sheets in the process, as they followed up last weekend's 4-0 cup success in Wales, with a goal in each half.

Argyle opened their account on 38 minutes but County were incensed by the decision that saw Argyle awarded the spot-kick and visiting goalkeeper Jake Davies sent off after receiving his second yellow card.

Davies had fumbled a shot and as he attempted to recover he and Ethan Stark, pictured, appeared to collide in going for the loose ball leaving Stark with the task of comfortably converted the resultant spot-kick.

Ten-men County fought a valiant rearguard battle in the second half as the Greens attempted to exploit their numerical advantage.

However, it was not until the introduction of substitute striker Louis Rooney that Welsh defence was finally breached again.

After sending a header on to the bar, with virtually his first touch, the first year apprentice striker netted with a crisp half-volley after being set up by Stark.

Argyle: Andrew Hannah, Will Sargent, Callum Hall, River Allen, Aaron Bentley, Ben Purrington, Solomon Wheatley (Nathan Summers 60), Keiran Asumadu-Sakyi, Ethan Stark, Ryan Lane (Louis Rooney 64), Josh Hutchinson. Substitutes (not used): Tom McHale, Tom Moxham.
