24th September 2013
ARGYLE have won their very first match in the inaugural Under-21 Premier League Cup.
The Pilgrims ran out 2-1 winners over Sky Bet Championship club AFC Bournemouth at the Goldsands Stadium on Tuesday. The Pilgrims took an early ninth minute lead through Andres Gurrieri but found themselves back on level terms 12 minutes later when the Cherries' Harry Cornick equalised.
The game then swung into the Pilgrims favour just under ten minutes before the break when home defender Josh Carmichael was given a second yellow card for bringing down Tyler Harvey on the edge of the box.
Tyler brushed himself down, before powering in the resultant free-kick to restore the Pilgrims' lead.
In the second period, the Greens really began to take control by making the extra man count in the midfield.
Dominic Blizzard went narrowly wide from distance on the hour mark before the Pilgrims were forced to weather the inevitable alte storm.
First, Jordan Chiedozie failed to convert from close range before Jake McCarthy saw his long range strike cleared off the line.
But the Pilgrims held on and will now face a home tie to either Watford or Bristol Rovers.
