Argyle U18s 2 Torquay U18s 1

ARGYLE'S youngsters secured their first Football League Youth Alliance Cup victory after coming from behind to score two second half goals at Tavistock's Langsford Park.

The Pilgrims now have four points from their two cup matches with two group games still to play against Bristol Rovers and Newport County.

Solomon Wheatley came within inches of giving Argyle a third minute lead but his good turn and shot saw the ball cannon back off the base of the Gull's upright.

River Allen, pictured, then saw his goalbound drive deflected narrowly wide of Dan Lavercombes goal.

The visitors hit back with Jamie Alexandrou's fine effort, from the angle of the box, forcing Andrew Hannah to make a great one-handed save before Torquay took a 22nd minute lead.

Jordan Campbell hit a great drive that curled around the diving Hannah and flew in to the top corner of the Argyle goal.

Lone striker Ethan Start showed good feet on the edge of the vistior's area only for a defender's last-ditch challenge to deflect his drive wide.

Argyle were searching hard for an equaliser and Joshua Hutchinson's weaving run ended with Lavercombe making a fine save which he repeated in the next attack when he dived bravely at Stark's feet.

The game was approaching the hour mark when Academy Manager Kevin Hodges replaced Wheatley with striker Louis Rooney and switched to a 4-4-2 formation.

Within 90 seconds Rooney had sent a glancing header, from Hutchinson's right wing cross, past Lavercombe to level the scores.

Allen was then denied by a combination of two defenders and Lavercombe as he closed in on goal before Rooney put an easier chance over the bar, from close range, before the home side took a 75th minute lead.

Stark was fouled 22 yards from goal and up stepped Allen to curl his free-kick around the wall and in to the bottom left-hand corner of Lavercombe's goal.

Stark went close with a far post drive before Torquay came back with Jack Mace firing over the bar from 20 yards but the final attack went to the Pilgrims as Hutchinson's superb 20 yard strike brought the save of the match out of Lavercombe in stoppage time.
