Sunday Funday

THE final home weekend of the season promises to be quite an occasion for all the family.

Football, fun and friendships come together for what should be truly a memorable couple of days.

First, on Saturday afternoon, John Sheridan’s team will take their bows as the curtain falls on the Pilgrims’ Home Park Sky Bet League 2 campaign with their final match against Hartlepool United.

Then, the limelight will switch to some Green heroes of the past as Paul Sturrock’s 2003-04 Nationwide Division 2 title-winners take centre stage.

Romain Larrieu, Steve Adams, Hasney Aljofree, Lee Hodges, Michael Evans, Martin Phillips, Ian Stonebridge and Paul Connolly are all coming home for the weekend: David Friio and Graham Coughlan are going to try to be there, too.

Saturday evening sees the Cross Keys Estate Agent-sponsored Luggy’s Legends Night being staged in the Green Taverners Suite at Home Park, where the manager and his players that triumphed 11 seasons ago will be guests of honour.

A ticket for the event, at which comedian Jimmy Quinn will perform and there will be an auction of Argyle memorabilia and a raffle, is just £20, which includes a two-course buffet meal. Further details from www.greentaverners.co.uk

The following day, Sunday, will see Luggy’s Legends – which will also include Brian McGlinchey, Jon Beswetherick and Kevin Wills from the Class of 2002 – take on another side comprising of former Pilgrims,  and including current Argyle coaches Gary Owers and Sean McCarthy, at Home Park.

Also set to put in an appearance are: Martin Barlow, Kevin Hodges, Mark Saunders, Mark Rowe, Ryan Cross, Darren Garner and Garry Penhaligon.

The game kicks off at 2pm but the gate will be opened at 11am as Higher Home Park is staging a Family Fun Day that includes: a quasar battlefield, sumo wrestling, a bouncy castle, a bungee run, an assault course, five-a-side football, a rodeo bull, and much, much more. Once inside, all the amusements are free of charge.

All the current first-team players will also be popping along throughout the afternoon.

Tickets for the whole event – Fun Day and match – are priced at £5 for adults, £3 for under-16s, and at £10 for a Family Ticket (two adults and two children). They can be bought from the Argyle Ticket Office at Home Park and through www.greentaverners.co.uk.
