"This Game Is For The Supporters"

JOHN Sheridan is not a Janner and has only been a Pilgrim for 20 months, but the importance of Saturday’s Devon Expressway Derby is not lost on him.

“This game is for the supporters,” he said, “and that’s what we’re going to try and do – win it for the fans, as [Exeter]’re our nearest rivals, and we want to get bragging rights.

“It’s a massive game. We have just got to go out there and not leave anything behind, and have a real good go at winning the game.”

John’s experiences as Argyle boss in a derby include a winning debut in Easter 2013, when Jason Banton memorably put a huge dent in City’s League 2 promotion hopes and ensured he would never have to pay for a drink in Plymouth or Cornwall again.

That day saw the Green Army fill Home Park with a huge, colourful mosaic, and similar – but bigger – display is planned for Saturday’s match, a show of passion which John knows can lift his team

“It’s a big one for the fans,” he said. “I know the importance of the crowd. It’s early in the season and we’ll want to get our crowd going with a win over our local rivals.”
