22 into 18

JUST as he predicted would happen, John Sheridan has a selection dilemma for Saturday’s visit of York City to Home Park, and not just with his starting 11.

He can add four names to the 18 on match-day duty during the 2-0 win at Northampton seven days previously, which also lessens the urgency for a further foray into the loan transfer-market.

John said: “We’ve got four players back and they will all be biting at the bit. Marvin [Morgan]’s back in full training – he’ll be involved; Durrell [Berry] will be back; Andres [Gurrieri] is back; Matty Parsons will be back; it’s just a decision whether I think they are ready to be ready for a first-team game.

“I am going to have a very hard job even picking the substitutes’ bench on Saturday. So be it. That’s part and parcel of my job and I don’t mind doing that.”

Marvin is in contention for his first match since the 3-1 defeat at Exeter in early October, since when he has undergone shoulder operation and nigh on five months of rehabilitation.

“With Marvin coming back, I don’t think the need for a striker is as important as it was two or three weeks ago,” said John. “Like anything, when you’ve been out for a long time, you can look alright in training but a match situation is totally different. But he’s fit and tells me he’s ready to be involved.”

Matt and Durrell have, like Marvin, been absent through injury, while Andres is available after serving a three-match suspension.

“He’s naturally fit, one of the fittest at the club,” said John. “He’s trained every day and, when we’ve travelled away on a Saturday, he’s trained on a Saturday. He’s done extra with John [Harbin] in the afternoons, as well, but I don’t think he’s one of those who will lose any fitness.”
