Rooney's Call Up

FIRST-YEAR apprentice Louis Rooney has been selected for two forthcoming Northern Ireland youth international friendlies against Switzerland.

The Under-19 fixtures take place on Tuesday, March 4 at the Oval Ground, Belfast, and Thursday, March 6, at Stangmore Park, Dungannon.

Louis, from Torpoint and a former Torpoint Community College Pupil, first joined Argyle as a nine-year-old. He has also represented South-East Cornwall Schools at both primary and secondary levels, as well as being part of a successful Argyle side that played in Northern Ireland’s prestigious Milk Cup.

Argyle academy manager Kevin Hodges said: “Louis is extremely hard working and he has been on standby for selection on three previous occasions this season. It’s a real reward to get this recognition and I’m sure Louis will be a model representative for the club whilst he is on international duty.

“Louis had a good game against Torquay last weekend and was a real threat for their defence for long periods of the match; he scored our second goal and gained a penalty for the winning goal.

“During his development at Argyle, Louis has been a proven goal scorer at all ages.  Now he has an opportunity to show what he can do at another level and we wish him every success.”

Louis will travel on Saturday, March 1 to join up with the squad and will miss our Under-18 fixtures against Newport, on Saturday, and Hereford, on Tuesday.
