Football Performance Academy
27th January 2014
CITY College Plymouth has joined forces with Argyle to offer its students a Football Performance Academy.
The Football Performance Academy enables students, aged 16 to 18, to combine expert football coaching and fitness conditioning with a full-time course at the College. The benefits of becoming an Academy member includes four hours football coaching a week, two weekly sessions of professional strength and conditioning, the opportunity to undertake a football coaching placement with the Argyle Community Trust and access to potential training opportunities with the Plymouth Argyle Youth Development Squad.
Past College successes include Ben Tozer, who signed for Swindon Town after performances in the Elite British Colleges’ league. He did enough at Swindon to impress Newcastle United, who paid £1 million for him when he was just 17.
The College’s Academy Manager for Sport, Charlie Legg, says: “The Football Performance Academy provides an excellent opportunity for young sports enthusiasts to develop in both a football and an academic setting. Students receive a high standard of competitive football, combined with a good education and support from College tutors.”
“There are many progression opportunities for students who attend the Academy including Foundation Degrees at the College, USA Football Scholarships and trails for the British Colleges’ national team.”
Plymouth Argyle Community Manager Mark Lovell explained: “The programme is a great opportunity for young people to gain educational qualification alongside having the opportunity of being involved in coaching and football sessions with its local professional football club. We are pleased to be working alongside City College Plymouth.”
