Tope's Last Stand
4th January 2014
TOPE Odabayi is on standby to bow out of his loan spell to Argyle from Bury as a replacement for Caolan Lavery in Sunday’s FA Cup third-round tie at Port Vale.
Fellow loanee Caolan’s parent club Sheffield Wednesday do not want him to become cup-tied by playing against the Sky Bet League 1 Potteries side. However, Wednesday have agreed to allow their Northern Ireland Under-21 striker, who has netted three times in four starts for Argyle, remain at Home Park for another month
“He’s a miss,” said John, “because he’s scoring goals for us and he’s made a difference to us and helped us to win games, but he’s going back to Sheffield for a few days off, so he’s no good to me.
“It’s unfortunate – he would have been involved if he’d been available. He’s not, so whoever I put in there will hopefully do what Caolan’s been doing of late and score one or two goals for us.
“Caolan is very happy here, he’s enjoying his football and he’s added something to us. He’s got the confidence of scoring goals while he’s been here. I appreciate Sheffield Wednesday letting us have him.”
Jake Cole, who has kept goal in all of the Pilgrims previous six cup-ties this season, will be rotated back into the starting line-up again in preference to Luke McCormick.
