ARGYLE will have not one, but two, captains this season.

Defender Curtis Nelson will lead the Pilgrims on the pitch for their 2014-15 Sky Bet League 2 campaign.

Off the field, Luke McCormick, Argyle's long-serving goalkeeper, has been appointed club captain.

Both roles had been fulfilled by midfielder Conor Hourihane for the past season and a half, prior to his move to League 1 Barnsley this summer.

Only six of the current Argyle squad are younger than 21-year-old Curtis.

However, no outfield player at Home Park – apart from veteran Paul Wotton – has made anything like his 143 appearances for the club. Next on the list is forward Reuben Reid, with 84.

Luke, who turns 31 in the first week of the season, is in his second Argyle spell and has played 185 times for the Pilgrims. He is in the senior bracket of players in the squad, younger than only Wotton, Marvin Morgan and fellow ’keeper James Bittner.

As well as appointing separate captains for on-field and off-field duties, manager John Sheridan has also named an official vice-captain.

That role will be filled by new signing Peter Hartley, who joined the Pilgrims in the summer from Stevenage.

Defender Peter, 26, has previously skippered his semi-eponymous hometown club Hartlepool United.
