Reuben Comes Home

THIS is the picture Argyle fans have been waiting all summer to see...

...Reuben Reid signing a Plymouth Argyle contract.

The striker, who is 26 next month, has agreed a two-year deal with the Pilgrims, whose fans voted him the club’s player of last season.

He took time out before jetting off on holiday from Manchester Airport to sign the papers that make him a Pilgrim until 2016.

It is a major coup for Argyle, who have had to face down a lot of competition for the signature of a striker who was one of the stars of Sky Bet League 2 last season, and speaks loudly of the club’s ambitions for 2014-15.

Reuben became the first Pilgrims’ striker since living legend Tommy Tynan to net more than 20 goals in a campaign during his season-long loan from Championship side Yeovil Town.

Only Scunthorpe United’s Sam Winnall scored more League 2 goals last season than Reuben, who played in every one of Argyle’s 53 matches – 51 of them as a starter – and no player in the division had more shots on target.

Whereas Reuben might have been tempted by overtures from some of Argyle’s rivals, the Bristolian has decided to return to a club where he knows he is valued by the manager, appreciated by his team-mates, loved by the fans, and where he feels right at home.

Welcome back to Home Park, Reuben.
