The Long Hauls

THE Green Army will travel over 11,500 miles during the 2014-15 Sky Bet League 2 season.

The longest round trip sees us scale virtually the entire length of the country to Cumbria and back – a round trip of 778.8 miles - on April 18 when we take on Carlisle United.

This narrowly eclipses last year’s longest journey of 775.5 miles trip to and from Hartlepool, which will again be undertaken, this season on January 31.

However far the trip to Carlisle may be, Brunton Park has been a happy hunting ground for Argyle in the recent past.

Of the last three visits to Cumbria, the Greens have won two and drawn one, last tasting defeat 15 years ago in a 4-2 loss in August 1999.

With both Torquay United and Bristol Rovers dropping out of the league, the 92.2 miles round trip the Exeter on February 21, for our 100th Devon Expressway Derby, is by far the shortest trek we will have this season.

In fact, the next shortest journey is nearly 200 miles longer and will see us travel up to South Wales and back to take on Newport County on Boxing Day.

The first stage of our Pilgrimage across the country will see a 577.4 mile round trip to Cambridge on August 9.

Other lengthy trips we have to look forward to in the first two months of the season include Bury (592.8 miles) on August 23, Morecambe (660.2 miles) on September 13, and Accrington Stanley (626 miles) on September 27.

A new ground for both the players and fans to look forward to visiting this season is Broadhall Way, the home of Stevenage, to which we embark on the 517.2 mile round trip to Hertfordshire on a Tuesday night in early March.
