Still In It

JOHN Sheridan believes Argyle’s promotion hopes have not been hindered after their 2-0 home defeat to Scunthorpe United.

Two late goals – one from Dave Syers, and an unfortunate own goal from Jake Cole – handed the Greens just their third loss in nine games.

The players, however, never lost motivation as they took on the very best of Sky Bet League 2 and matched them blow for blow. It is efforts and performances like these that make the Pilgrims’ manager believe that dreams of promotion are well and truly alive.

“If we keep playing like that, we’ll be in with a shout – I really believe that,” said John.

“I’m pleased with the way we played, and I hope we can take that in to the remaining games.”

The Pilgrims’ task does not get any easier as they host League 2 leaders Chesterfield at Home Park on Tuesday night. The boss is not one to back away from a challenge, and believes his team have it in them to get a positive result and kick off another positive run of form.

“I can only talk and pick a team, so it’s down to the players to bounce back,” he said, “but they’re all showing commitment at the moment. I think everyone that was at the game today would agree.

“They’re all tough games, but we’ve got to try. We’ve got another tough one against the league leaders coming up.

“If Chesterfield were watching the game today, they’ll know they’ve got a tough match coming up.”
