Stuart the Ref
2nd May 2014
STUART Attwell is the referee for Argyle's final game of the 2013-14 Sky Bet League 2 season.
in 2009 Stuart became the youngest man to referee a Premier League fixture, and was on the Select List of officials for four years. He was the subject of some controversy shortly afterwards when he awarded a goal in a game between Watford and Reading after the ball had crossed the line some four months wide of the target. This season, Stuart has refereed 35 matches, issuing 103 yellow cards and sending off nine players. He has awarded six penalties.
He has only refereed Argyle twice - and on both occasions the result has been a 1-0 away defeat for Argyle, with a man being sent off. The first was in March 2008, at Scunthorpe United, when he sent off Luke McCormick for handling outside of his penalty area. Lee Hodges would replace Luke in goal, and this would mean McCormick being suspended for the trip to Bristol City the following week. This was the game in which Rab Douglas made his one and only start for Argyle, in a 2-1 win.
Mr Attwell's other outing with Argyle resulted in a 1-0 defeat at Cardiff in December 2008, in which David McNamee was dismissed in injury-time. This meant McNamee ended up missing Argyle's trip to Arsenal in the FA Cup.
