Wott a Man

ARGYLE manager John Sheridan hailed Paul Wotton after the evergreen Green made a landmark 491st appearance...

...for his hometown club in the Pilgrims’ curtain-dropping 3-3 Sky Bet League 2 draw at Portsmouth.

When Wottsy entered the fray as an 85th-minute substitute for Neal Trotman – with captain Conor Hourihane’s late equaliser still to come – he joined the legendary Sammy Black at joint-second on the list of players who have made most appearances for Argyle.

“It’s a great achievement,” said John, who decided before the game to pay his own tribute to the two-time Player of the Year and captain of the club’s two title-winning seasons between 2001-04.

“I was always going to put him on. I think it’s it only right if it helps him to get that record.

“You can see the fans are really fond of him and to play that many games at one club is testament to him.

“Like I say, it is a great achievement.”
