NEW Argyle signing Bobby Reid had only been in Plymouth for a matter of hours...

...before he was a impressing his team-mates and the Pilgrims’ coaches.

The 21-year-old Bristol City midfielder has joined John Sheridan’s squad on an initial month’s loan and goes straight into the squad for the Sky Bet League 2 visit to Accrington on Saturday.

“He’s settled in really well,” said first-team coach Sean McCarthy, after Thursday’s training session at which Bobby met with his new team-mates for the first time.

“He’s a very good player. He wants to try and get in the first team at Bristol City, but he’s better off playing some first-team games at Plymouth Argyle, than for Bristol City reserves.”

Argyle manager John Sheridan has never been shy to add young players to the Argyle ranks, and is not scared of adding homegrown youngsters to the mix – he has handed debuts to Ben Purrington and River Allen in the past year, while first-year pro Aaron Bentley and a smattering of apprentices have regularly appeared in friendlies.

Sean took charge of the Pilgrims’ development squad in midweek, when they visited Gillingham in the Premier League Under-21 Cup. As well as Ben, River and Aaron, Argyle’s side featured Ollie Norburn, Tyler Harvey and Nathan Thomas, with all in line to feature in the first-team’s weekend visit to Accrington.

Sean said: “I think the manager is looking to add players – you never stop looking – but we’ve got a few young lads at the club as well who are knocking on the door. They played at Gillingham  in an Under-21s game on Tuesday, and they were outstanding.

“So, as well as looking to bring new players in, which I’m sure John is looking at, we have got some young lads who can come into the squad, as well.”
