Gavin in the Middle

THE man in charge for Argyle’s crucial Sky Bet League 2 match against Tranmere Rovers on Saturday, will be Surrey-based referee Gavin Ward.

Gavin has been on the national list of referees since 2007, and has so far taken charge of two Argyle matches in his career. The first was the Green’s 2-0 victory over Southampton in 2008, in which Peter Halmosi and Jim Paterson were the scorers; Luke McCormick is the only member of the current Argyle squad that played that day.

The other occasion in which Gavin took charge of Argyle was a 1-1 draw at  Wycombe Wanderers in 2012; in which Guy Madjo scored the Pilgrims' equaliser, and both Ross Jenkins and Darren Purse were shown yellow cards.

So far this season Gavin has taken charge of 32 games; brandishing a total of 117 yellow cards and nine reds.

In 11 Sky Bet League 2 matches this season, Gavin has handed out 29 yellow cards and three reds.
