Keeping Up With Jones
24th April 2015
CARLISLE last week; Chelsea on Thursday; Tranmere this weekend – there is plenty of variety in Gethin Jones’ young life at the moment as he experiences the best of all possible worlds.
Argyle’s teenage defender is aiming to help the Pilgrims on their way to promotion from Sky Bet League 2 with victory against Tranmere Rovers at Home Park on Saturday.
The on-loan Everton man warmed up for that vital match by playing for the Toffees’ Under-21s against Chelsea in a Barclays Under-21 Premier League game at Aldershot’s Recreation Ground on Thursday.
Argyle manager John Sheridan was delighted that Gethin was given valuable game-time by his parent club, as is permitted under the terms of his youth loan to Argyle.
John said: “Joe Royle, who looks after Everton’s youth development, was keen for him to play, and I was pleased that Gethin wanted to play, so it has worked out well for everyone.
“Gethin will have benefited immensely for the game and he looked sharp and bright in training with us on Friday.”
Gethin – the Welsh Under-21 captain – has played five times for the Pilgrims since coming to Home Park at the beginning of April, and will remain at Home Park until the end of the season, including any participation in the League 2 play-offs.
