Argyle 4 Bude 3 - Peninsula League Report

TYLER Harvey scored a fine treble as Argyle opened their campaign in the Peninsula League Division 1 West with an enthralling 4-3 win over Bude Town at Seale-Hayne.

Ryan Lane scored the first with a solid header and Harvey converted a confident penalty just after the interval to give the Pilgrims a 2-0 lead, but Bude hit back soon after from Billy Hopcroft.

Harvey then had a penalty saved but smashed home the rebound for a 3-1 advantage, and it should have been game over. Credit, however, must go to Bude for fighting back to draw level with goals from Chris Hill and Wesley Pugh.

A certain victory had turned into an unlikely draw until Harvey intervened again to head home a dramatic late winner and complete his own hat-trick.

“We made hard work of it but credit to Bude for the test,” said Head Coach Kevin Nancekivell. “We were controlling the game at 3-1 but we let them back in with a couple of errors.

“The attitude and application of the boys was outstanding, and that includes the pros who were involved. We passed the ball very well at times but we need to tighten up at the back. It was pleasing to seal the first win of the season.”
