Youth Friendly Round-up

ALEX Fletcher’s late equaliser ensured that Argyle under-18s escaped Torpoint Athletic with a draw in their friendly at The Mill on Saturday.

The Academy side, featuring Ryan Lane and Callum Hall, looked set to lose to their opponents from the South West Peninsula Premier Division with a performance that hadn’t matched some of the standards seen so far in their pre-season schedule.

But after struggling with the conditions, Argyle snatched a draw, with Fletcher meeting Lane’s dangerous corner delivery to head the Pilgrims back onto level terms.

The side had better luck last Tuesday over Galmpton United as an Argyle select XI won 2-1. Conor McAuley put the Pilgrims ahead, only for their opponents to equalize shortly after.

But Argyle, made up of some under-18 players and several of the South West Peninsula Division 1 side, won the game through an audacious strike from under-16 prospect Ryan Law, who netted the winner from all of 25 yards.
