Window Talk

IN recent years, the opening of football’s mid-season transfer window...

...has become a crucial addition to the festive calendar: Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Speculation Day, Epiphany...

The Pilgrims have three matches to play before they can renew their Sky Bet League 2 table-topping squad and Argyle manager Derek Adams will not be drawn on the specifics. However, he is ready to do business in the New Year.

“We have a plan in place and are working to that plan,” he said. “We will try to add to the squad in the January period to help the players who have done so well this season.”

As well as weighing up fresh ins and outs, Derek also has to consider the position of the Pilgrims’ three loan players – Crystal Palace’s Hiram Boateng; fellow midfielder Oscar Threlkeld, of Bolton Wanderers; goalkeeper Christian Walton, borrowed from Brighton; and Reading forward Craig Tanner.

“We are still talking to the clubs,” he said. “[The loans] don’t run out until January 2, so we don’t have a problem – we don’t have a game until January 12, so we have got a good period to sort things out.”
