Argyle v Morecambe - Pilgrim Punting
24th January 2015
ARGYLE are the 19/20 favourites with Football League sponsors Sky Bet to beat Morecambe at Home Park this Saturday.
The Pilgrims will be looking to secure all three points and restore winning ways after dropping points in their previous five fixtures, while the Shrimps, who are currently two places below Argyle in the table, have claimed just 6 points from a possible 15 and are priced at 100/30 to win.In the reverse fixture at the Globe Arena earlier this season, Morecambe claimed the points with a 2-1 win. Striker Kevin Ellison, who is three league goals shy of Reuben Reid’s tally of 11, and winger Jamie Devitt were both on target and Sky Bet are backing Ellison to score first this Saturday with odds of 7/1. Argyle’s top goal scorer Reid is priced at 7/2.
The last time Morecambe travelled south to play at the Theatre of Greens, the Shrimp were dismantled 5-0 by John Sheridan’s side. Forward Lewis Alessandra bagged a brace and Curtis Nelson added a goal before former Pilgrims Durrell Berry and Andres Gurrieri completed the rout.
A 5-0 win this weekend is being priced at a rather outrageous 100/1, while an Alessandra brace seems the more likely of the two with slightly more reserved odds of 8/1.
Did you know Argyle have never lost at home to Morecambe? In the three meetings that have taken place at Home Park since 2011, the Pilgrims have shipped an impressive eight goals and conceded just two. With ‘Super’ Luke McCormick in between the sticks, the bookies are backing the Greens at 11/10 to secure a 14th clean sheet of the season.
That’s got to be worth a punt, surely.
