Ryan's Gig
20th January 2015
ARGYLE are set to sign forward Ryan Brunt.
The 21-year-old has agreed an 18-month contract at Home Park, subject to the necessary formalities, after leaving Vanarama Conference side Bristol Rovers.
Although 6ft 1in Ryan comes to Argyle from the Memorial Stadium, he has spent a majority of this season playing in Sky Bet League 2.
The former Stoke City apprentice played six times for York City in October and November, and made five appearances for Stevenage between November and December before an ankle injury cut short his time at the Lamex Stadium.
Ryan began his professional career with Stoke City after coming through the Potters’ Academy.
He did not make a first-team appearance for City, but was loaned out to Sky Bet League 1 sides Tranmere Rovers and Leyton Orient whilst still a teenager, making 37 appearances all told.
After impressing with Leyton in the first half of the 2012-13 season, he joined League 2 Bristol Rovers on a two-and-a-half-year contract in January 2013.
At the time, Rovers manager John Ward described him as: “a big lad and a line leader. He is what you would describe as an old-fashioned centre-forward, and he has goals in him, which is obviously important.”
He scored a dramatic injury-time winner against Barnet on his home debut, and netted a further four times in 17 more games, playing a key role as Rovers avoided relegation.
Last season, he featured for Rovers against Argyle at Home Park when Reuben Reid’s late strike gave the Pilgrims a 1-0 win. However, his campaign was curtailed nine games into the season because of a knee injury.
Ryan has been allocated squad number 28.
Welcome to Home Park, Ryan.
