Peninsula Preview - Porthleven

THE season is now over three months old and it is safe to say the Peninsula League experiment is working well for all concerned.

Argyle Community Trust has combined perfectly with the first-team squad and Academy players to provide an ideal platform for all those playing under the Green banner to gain experience in a competitive environment.

The latest chapter in this particular adventure is a trip to Porthleven on Saturday.

“As a staff, the first-team and Academy coaching teams normally come together on a Thursday or Friday to work out which players will be deployed in which team,” said Head Coach Kevin Nancekivell.

“The manager is always in contact with the Academy staff and we discuss the teams for every weekend. The whole set-up has worked very well so far and been a real bonus for the players.

“They are paid professionals and it’s great for everybody to be playing football. It sounds strange but professional footballers can occasionally find a situation where they don’t get to play regularly, and this scenario has removed that potential problem.”
