Argyle under-18s 4 Oxford Utd 2
Argyle's first Football League Youth Alliance game at Seale Hayne was a successful one as they put last week's cup defeat behind them to extend their unbeaten league run to six straight wins.
"The first 25 minutes of this game was probably the best we have played this season," said Academy Manager Kevin Hodges. Unfortunately, with the game appearing to be won, we took our foot off the pedal and Oxford scored twice.
"Our defence nullified their threat after the break as we came back well to deservedly claim the win."
Argyle flew into a second minute lead after Alex Battle had found Alex Flether and his drive was parried by the visiting goalkeeper for Jason Vincent to slot home the loose ball.
It was 2-0 six minutes later as Dan Rooney was felled in the area, and Vincent would notch his second of the game from the penalty spot. When Jack Calver's 20 yard free kick made it 3-0, 10 minutes later, the game looked done and dusted.
But Oxford hit back, scoring twice in as many minutes, to narrow the deficit to just one goal. Argyle came back strongly after the interval, restoring their two-goal cushion when Sam Ryan's fine run down the right wing saw his cross headed powerfully home by Battle.
Argyle: Cory Harvey, Billy Palfrey, Jordan Bentley, Owen Jones, Liam Knowles, Dan Rooney, Aaron Taylor, Jack Calver (Sam Ryan 70), Alex Fletcher, Alex Battle (Josh Richards 88), Jason Vincent (Jamil Roberts 85).
