Carried Away

ARGYLE’S 2-0 victory over Notts County further developed an objective that Derek Adams set his sights on from day one at the club: improving away form.

Reuben Reid’s fourth and fifth goals, one in each half, made sure of the Greens’ fifth win from seven matches in all competitions to start the 2015-16 season. County did have prolonged spells of possession and posed a threat, but Derek’s side were able to complete the key task of withstanding pressure on the road.

“When you come away from home, you’ve got to soak up the pressure,” said Adams.

“That’s the nature of the league. 12 teams have got a very good away record in this league; they haven’t conceded a lot of goals.

“I looked at some of the stats before I took the job on, and it’s important that we have to try and win away from home, as well as at home.

“I was looking at it before the game: we’ve got a very good away record.  We haven’t conceded many goals away from home, and it was important today that you have to defend well. We did that.

“It’s quite amazing. You have to do that in this league.”
