Newport Under-18s 1 Argyle 2

JUST like the Argyle first team, the Pilgrims' youngsters are leading the way in their division, cementing their place at the top of the Football League Youth Alliance South West with a 2-1 win at Newport County on Friday night.

Jason Vincent scored both of the Young Greens' goals against their Welsh hosts at Llanwern School to put Argyle four points ahead of a chasing pack including Cheltenham, Portsmouth and Bristol Rovers.

Vincent put Kevin Hodges' Under-18s in front early in the match with his fifth goal of the league campaign, a header, but Newport leveled just before half-time after hesitation by the Pilgrims' defence.

In the second half of a game watched by former Pilgrim Warren Feeney, County's assistant-manager, Vincent grabbed the winner, mopping up after an excellent shot from Jack Calver hit the underside of the Newport crossbar.
