Pilgrim Punting - Argyle v Accrington
16th October 2015
AFTER an away victory at Notts County last Sunday, Argyle will bid to retain their spot at the top of League 2, with fifth placed Accrington Stanley the visitors.
Argyle are even money with Sky Bet to record their fourth consecutive home victory in all competitions; a result that would keep the Pilgrims at top of the league. A draw is valued at 12/5, which would mean Argyle are unbeaten in eight games, and a Accrington Stanley win at Home Park, something they have only done once before in their history, is 11/4.
Accrington Stanley and Argyle have met each other twice a season for the last four seasons. However, out of the last six games between the two sides, there has been a mere six goals, with two 0-0 draws. That's an average of one goal per fixture, so under 2.5 goals may be advisable here, at 4/5.
Argyle have scored twice in each of their previous four matches, and are 5/2 to score that many against Accrington. For the Pilgrims to win 2-0, the same score line as their previous two wins, is 8/1. For Argyle to win 2-1, the result that the Pilgrims achieved against Barnet and Crawley, Sky Bet go 15/2.
Reuben Reid now has five league goals for Argyle this season, and is 4/1 to open the scoring against Accrington Stanley. Jake Jervis is also the same price. There might be more value, though, in going for Hiram Boateng at 9/2 to score anytime. Hiram has scored two in his last three games.
Currently at top of League 2, Argyle are evens to get promoted at the end of the season, and 5/1 to retain their position and win the league. Reuben Reid grabbed two goals against Notts County on Sunday, and that saw his League 2 top scorer odds slashed to 14/1. Meanwhile, backing Jake Jervis for top scorer would give you very good value, at 25/1.
That's worth a punt, surely?
