Argyle Under-18s 5 Cheltenham Town 1

Argyle's youngsters scored five goals for the second game running as they made it four straight victories with an impressive display at Langsford Park, Tavistock.

Jason Vincent was the hero of last weekend's 5-1 success at Exeter but he failed to make the squad for this game after suffering a hamstring injury.

Alex Fletcher assumed the number nine shirt and made the most of it by scoring twice with promising youngster Luke Jephcott celebrating starting the game with Argyle's second of the match.

The game did not start well for Argyle as Cheltenham were gifted an 11th minute opener as Lewis Thompson made the most of his clear five yard start on the Pilgrims back four to supply a perfect finish.

Argyle hit back strongly, pushing Cheltenham on to the back foot, and were rewarded with a 24th minute leveller as Fletcher's drive flew into the visitor's goal, then four minutes later Jephcott once again showed his finishing ability with a good run and finish to give his side the lead.

It was all Argyle as Cheltenham struggled to get out of their own half, and a third goal was not long in arriving as Dan Rooney's superb pass put in Fletcher for a cracking angled drive into the top corner of the visitor's net.

The game was practically over as a contest two minutes before the break as Jake Miller's forceful run saw his driven cross find Fletcher at the far post, and he pulled the ball back for Rooney to lash home Argyle's fourth from 10 yards.

The Pilgrim's continued to push forward in the second half with efforts from Jack Calver and Miller both screaming just wide of the mark before a fifth goal arrived on 63 minutes when central defender Owen Jones powered home a fine header.
