Stevenage v Argyle - Pilgrim Punting

BEFORE we get into some top bets for this weekend's trip to Stevenage, we do have pull our trumpet out of storage, and blow on it a little.

Last week, we offered up the notable stat that Argyle keep on taking 1-0 half-time leads in matches - well, they did it once more against Newport, making it four times from five league games that this has happened. The 5/2 price that we tipped up with Sky Bet looks great now, as does the 11/8 you could have got for winning at half-time, no matter the score.

We also called Graham Carey to score the first goal - or last goal - at 7/1. If you did both bets, then both won for you, as the Greens won 1-0 with a Carey strike. Perhaps you got on the 9/4 on Carey to score any time, too.

We were so close to making it a dream weekend. We suggested a price of 40/1 for Graham to score in both halves - he scored in the first and hit the bar in the second!

Fancy the same bets this week? Sky Bet go 100/30 Argyle to lead 1-0 at half-time, and 21/10 for them simply to be winning; Carey to score first or last is 17/2, with an anytime strike valued at 3/1; Carey to score a goal in each half is a whopping 66/1!

Here's another stat to add to the list: in the four games Argyle have led 1-0 at half-time, the goals times have been 40, 43, 39, 43. You can get 13/2 on the time of the first goal being 31-40 minutes, with 7/1 on offer for 41-50 (and that gives you the first half stoppage time, too)

The last two matches between these two teams - in the only times they have ever met - resulted in a 1-1 draw at Home Park and a 1-0 Stevenage win at the Lamex. Therefore, under 2.5 goals would fit in with that pattern, and that is valued at 8/13.

However, Argyle have averaged at two goals per game in the league this season, with the goals coming from various sources. The last time Argyle failed to score, in any for of football, was on April 18, in a 2-0 defeat at Carlisle.

Argyle have been reasonably impressive defensively too, keeping three clean sheets in five league game, and conceded just one goal from open play. Luke McCormick is 7/4 with Sky Bet to have another successful afternoon in between the sticks, and keep Stevenage out.

If you are after some tastier prices, try these for size. Defender and captain Curtis Nelson is likely to make his 200th Argyle appearance on Saturday; in his 199 games to date, he has got six goals. He is 17/2 to score at any time at Stevenage, or 25/1 to notch first/last.

On Tuesday night Argyle progressed to the next round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy beating AFC Wimbledon 3-2. In that game Argyle came from behind to win, something that they hadn't done in the 913 days preceding the match. For Stevenage to lead at half-time but Argyle to go on and win you can get odds of 33/1. Another 3-2 Argyle win on Saturday is priced at 40/1.

The draw for the second round of the JPT will be made on Saturday morning, during Soccer AM, a little after 11am. As of the time of writing, Argyle are 40/1 to win the competition, and you can each-way odds too, with half the odds on offer just for reaching the final.
