He's a Keeper

LUKE McCormick has the full backing of manager Derek Adams.

An uncharacteristic error from the Pilgrims' goalkeeper saw Exeter City equalise last Saturday in the Devon Expressway Derby, in a game the Grecians would go on to win 2-1.

Argyle had been leading 1-0 until Ollie Watkins' 80th minute strike somehow eluded McCormick. Watkins' second condemned Argyle to defeat, but Adams is not prepare to start pointing the finger of blame.

“It was just individual errors that have cost us - but these players have done well throughout the season,” said Adams. “My point of view is that everyone makes mistakes and some people get punished more than others.

“Luke McCormick has been outstanding this season for us, he’s a top goalkeeper and the best in the league. It was unfortunate for him on Saturday; he’s performed very well for us.”

Argyle recently signed goalkeeper Vincent Dorel after a short trial with the Pilgrims, and the Frenchman made his first appearance in an Argyle jersey on Tuesday, playing in Argyles 1-0 away win at Exeter City in the semi-final of the Edenvale Ltd Devon St Luke’s Challenge Cup.

“He did well," said Derek. "He commanded his area well and was good with his feet. He didn’t have much to do but what he had to do, he did well.

“We needed competition before the end of the season. We only had two goalkeepers on the books throughout the football club, as well as young Cory Harvey in the under 18s."
