Reasons to be Cheerful - Portsmouth v Argyle

AHEAD of this Saturday's Dockyard Derby at Fratton Park, we take a look at why we can be optimistic this time out...

Nice and Three-sy
In both 2012 and 2014, Argyle comfortably beat Portsmouth 3-0. In 2012, Johnny Gorman, Paris Cowan-Hall and Nick Chadwick scored Argyle’s goals. In 2014, Reuben Reid scored twice, and Lewis Alessandra, currently on loan at York, scored as the Pilgrims cruised to victory.

Reid It and Weep
Argyle’s number 9 has scored against Pompey three times, on two different occasions. Both games were in 2014. The first one was a 3-3 draw away at Fratton Park, where Reuben Reid scored once and Conor Hourihane scored twice to gain the Pilgrims a point. The second was in November, where this time it was Reuben Reid scoring twice, in a 3-0 home win.

Matt Attack
Argyle’s loan striker has scored three goals in his last four games for the Pilgrims, with last week’s defeat against AFC Wimbledon being the only game he did not score in out of the four. Jamille scored in the 2-0 away win at Mansfield, the 3-2 home victory against York and the 2-1 loss at Exeter. Argyle’s striker will be looking to get back on the score sheet against Portsmouth.

Good Omens
Argyle’s last game on April 16 was a 2-1 win away at Chesterfield. The win was an important step towards the Pilgrims’ survival as a Football League club at the time. Argyle captain Curtis Nelson got his name on the score sheet, along with a superb curling goal from Joe Bryan.
