Under 18s: Argyle 4 Newport 1

ARGYLE'S Academy side made a winning start to their season with a victory over Newport County on Wednesday.

The Pilgrims met the Welsh side at Caldicot in the EFL Youth Alliance South West Division Cup, and ran out handsome 4-1 winners. 

Goals from Luke Jephcott and Alex Fletcher midway through the first half gave Argyle a comfortable 2-0 half-time lead, and Dan Rooney's strike, just after the hour mark, put the game in bag. 

Newport pulled a goal back with a quarter of an hour remaining to get on the scoresheet, but Matt Ward renewed Argyle's three-goal advantage seven minutes from time.
