AFTER Argyle’s impressive 3-0 victory over Mansfield Town, Derek Adams believes his side’s record proves that they are still capable of winning the Sky Bet League 2 title.
A Gregg Wylde strike and a Ryan Brunt double made sure the Greens comfortably saw off one of the division’s in-form teams with a confident display at home, showing their quality against some of the best that League 2 has to offer.
“We’ve got a very good record against the teams in the top half of the table,” said Derek. “We’ve got an excellent record: I think we’ve got the third-best record against top-half teams, and I think it’s the second-best record against bottom-half teams, as well.
“We know we’re a team that have performed really well this season. We have to keep on moving forward, and we’ve got a lot of important games coming up.”
Adams is by no means ready to look at consolidating his side’s spot in the promotion places, and has full faith in his team’s ability to chase down league leaders Northampton Town before the end of the campaign.
“We’ve shown this season what we can do. I’ve said before that I want to try and win the league,” said Adams.
“People probably looked at me as if I’m daft at the start of the season, but that’s what I’m here to try and do. I’m trying to aim high. Have we got the right to do it? Probably not. Are we going to try and do it? We are.
“We’ve got to look at the type of player we’ve got, and try and push on. Are we a good side? Well: we’ve won 18 games this season, and that tells you its own story.”
