Alliance Champions

ARGYLE are the champions of the South West Youth Alliance - with two games left to play.

A 0-0 draw against Bristol Rovers on Friday gave the young Pilgrims the point they required to ensure that no other side could catch them, and see them through to the Merit League campaign in style.

Success in the local Alliance takes Argyle into the Merit League, where teams from the South-eastern Alliance will join their Westcountry counterparts.

Last season, Kevin Hodges' boys were second to Bournemouth in the Alliance before sweeping all before in the Merit League. This year, having gone one better at the first stage, they will be looking to looking to retain the Merit League title for a second season.

Argyle did all but score in the first half against Rovers at MarJon, playing some beautiful football in testing conditions. In the second half, with the vital point in sight, things got a little nervier, but the Greens held on for the draw that will see the first silverware of 2016 head to Home Park.

Hopefully, it is not the last...
