Phil in Charge
29th January 2016
PHIL Gibbs is the referee for Argyle's home fixture on Saturday as they entertain Wycombe Wanderers at Home Park.
The West Midlander is in his eighth season of refereeing professional football and has overseen 10 games so far this season, ranging from Sky Bet Championship games down to League 2, as well as the Emirates FA Cup. He most recently officiated Bury's 1-0 away win over Oldham in Sky Bet League 1 last weekend.
The last game Phil refereed for the Pilgrims was in our 2-1 defeat to Cheltenham Town, our final game of the 2011-12 season in which Marlon Pack scored Town's winner after Juhvel Tsomou had responded for Argyle.
The Pilgrims have only won once in five when Gibbs has overseen them in a league fixture, a 1-0 away win at Cardiff City in the Championship on Boxing Day 2009 in which a Gary Sawyer goal six minutes from time sealed all three points. Gibbs went on to book four Pilgrims; Romain Larrieu, Reda Johnson, Carl Fletcher and Rory Fallon in that game.
This season has seen Phil hand out 26 yellow cards and two reds in his 10 games having sent off Oxford defender Johnny Mullins in their 1-1 draw with non-league Braintree in the Emirates FA Cup Third Round and then most recently Gillingham's Nathan Clarke on January 2 in their 3-0 win over Bradford.
