Going to Blazey

ARGYLE'S players will return to action less than six weeks after their play-off final appearance.

The Pilgrims' first pre-season friendly ahead of the 2016-17 Sky Bet League 2 season will take place on Saturday, July 9 - 40 days after, and 270 miles away from, Wembley.

The opposition will be St Blazey, of the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League Premier Division, and the match kicks off a nine-game pre-season campaign which culminates with the prestige visit of Premier League West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, July 30. The Baggies friendly, which takes place a week before the season begins, is the only one being played at Home Park.

A week after the game at St Blazey, and following a midweek trip to South West Peninsula League Premier Division Tavistock, Argyle visit Vanarama National League Torquay United.

The Pilgrims will return to Cornwall to play Vanarama National League South side Truro City, who have recently appointed former Pilgrims Lee Hodges and Rory Fallon as their new management team.

Manager Derek Adams will also take an Argyle XI to Bovey Tracey, on Wednesday, July 13, and Elburton Villa, a week later on Wednesday, July 20.

Argyle's final warm-up game before their return to Home Park to entertain Tony Pulis's West Brom will be in Holland, where the Pilgrims will be based for a pre-season training camp. They are slated to play Maatschappelijke Voetbal Vereniging Maastricht, of the Dutch Eerste Divisie, on Tuesday, July 26.
