Respect to the Pilgrims
6th June 2016
ARGYLE'S Carlsberg South West Peninsula League promotion-winners side...
...picked up an unexpected, but welcome, additional prize at the league's recent awards evening.
The Pilgrims' Development side, runners-up in Division 1 West in their debut 2015-16 season, won the league's Respect Award.
As endorsers of the FA Respect Campaign, match referees from the Peninsula League were asked to vote for the Respect Award from the 56 teams across three divisions.
Alphington FC picked up the prize for Division 1 East and Witheridge won the Premier Division but Argyle were the overall winners - a huge tribute to the professional attitude shown by our young players in the sometimes intimidating environment of competitive adult football.
After finishing second in Division 1 West and earning promotion to the Premier Division, the Pilgrims were officially confirmed as runners-up in their league, which brings a monetary reward of £750.
It is testament to the hard work put in by everyone at Home Park over the past season to ensure the Peninsula experiment has been a success, with first-team professionals, academy players mixing with youngsters from Argyle Community Trust’s education programme to form a powerful football team at this level.
