Welsh Snare Bitts
17th June 2016
JAMES Bittner has signed for Newport County.
The 34-year-old goalkeeper has left Home Park to join up with former Pilgrim Warren Feeney, who is not the County manager. As at Argyle, James will combine a role as back-up goalkeeper with being the club's goalkeeping coach. After a career as either first-choice in non-league football or back-up to established keepers in league sides, James came to Argyle as number two to Luke McCormick, and when replacing Luke at half-time in a fixture against Morecambe in January 2015, he was making his league debut, just days before his 33rd birthday.
His only other Argyle appearance was against York City last November, when James started in place of the injured McCormick in a 2-1 victory at Bootham Crescent. It look as though James' long-awaited debut would end in a deserved clean sheet, but for a York consolation goal deep into injury time.
James leaves with the best wishes of all at Home Park, who will miss his excellent attitude and jovial presence around the club.
Thanks Bitts - and good luck.
